Chrysalis
By Claudia Santavicca
I closed a door
Locked it
Turned away
Didn’t look back
And I think
I lost the key
Someday
I might find it
Leave the door ajar
Shed light into
The dusty cavern
Let it be free.
But until then
The door will remain
Firmly closed
It’s easier like that, anyway.
Someday
I will pick up the
Broken picture frame
On the floor
Collecting dust
Piece it together
Instead of casting it away
Someday
Instead of throwing pennies
Into fountains
I will throw them into the sky
Watch them soar
Up
Up
Up
Like a butterfly.
