Adrift

I numbly observe my hollow heart
Wash up on shore

I decided to leave it there

The waves lap it up again; hungry for more
I have already given them everything.

Driftwood follows the ebb and flow
Of the river

Dragging it to the seafloor
Maybe someday I will be anchored
Find a harbor

But until then I will cling
To what are mere figments of my imagination.
Tugging on my heartstrings

Until then
I will continue to be
a d r i f t

As the principal of Julia Landon College Preparatory and Leadership Development School I am proud to support "Between the Lions" as an opportunity for students to develop leadership skills while learning the responsibilities and processes of student journalism. Through the creation of a school newspaper, students will take on meaningful roles, work collaboratively, practice communication and real time decision making, meet deadlines, and learn the importance of responsibility, accountability, and professionalism. My hope is that students will grow not only as young journalists, but as confident student leaders who understand that leadership is demonstrated through their actions, responsibilities, and contributions to their school community.
